The sudden stop

Going up and down stairs and walking came with a good deal of discomfort today, which made sitting at a desk working on a computer a pretty ideal job. I did have some cool visitors at work today, but a tour through the museum by its very nature is slow.

I'm in better spirits today than yesterday, but incredibly restless. I woke at 4 am, but not enough to do anything about it. I waited until the early evening for a bike ride, which is my least favorite time of day because there is so much traffic. The corn through the country roads is drying out and a bit of breeze made it crinkle.

By the end of the day I felt less awkward when walking and the mental tricks started. I know I need to stave off getting going too quickly. I don't think I practiced patience enough the last time around. Feel better and then wait is an easy strategy to say out loud, but much more difficult to do. Based on notes from last time I had this happen I pushed  harder than I should have and it wasn't until about day 5 when things started to feel like they were turning in the right direction. Starting to add milage back about day 8. Things get fuzzy because tapering starts about 10 days out so it is a weird ramp up just to come back down.

I was training at a 3:10 marathon pace, so even if I were to lose 2% fitness from doing absolutely nothing, I'd make it under the 3:15 goal. And I'm not going to do nothing. I'll channel my mind toward getting on the bike.

But walking is first.
