One Year Ago Today

One year ago today I ran the Detroit Free Press Marathon in 3:21:33

An amazing 33 minutes faster than 2023.

It felt great...Until mile 20 when I started to get a little confused mentally and the last 6.2 I struggled

But that is part of what makes the experience so special.....Struggling and overcoming.

If everything were easy the story would be boring. Who wants to read a story where everything goes right?

just 5 months earlier at the Bayshore Marathon ...I burned out around mile 18 (as in side of the road I don't know if I need to call medical help kind of burned out). I finished, but not happily.

This year's Detroit Free Press marathon sold out before I could sign up. I delayed because I wanted to run the Glass City Marathon and by the time I did that all the spots were filled. This year's marathon sounded like a slug fest by everyone's account...high winds and torrential rainfall.

But my guess is every single one of those people who finished this year's race is 10x tougher on account of it and although I can only imagine the intertwining of emotions between disappointment and glowing pride for doing something sorta crazy.

It feels great to have a look back and see the arch of this story that never would have happened without those first brave steps and feeling uncomfortable trying to run around the block.
